| Greetings to my tiny internet audience! I have been on hiatus for so long that when I went to sign in this evening, I had forgotten my user name. No, you read correctly - I said user name, not password. After searching down my name on other's blogs I was able to log in. That in and of itself speaks to my lack of blogging the last month and a half. This whole "law school" thing has taken over my life. I am not complaining, because it is interesting and a longtime goal of mine finally realized, but it certainly has changed a lot. For example, my cleaning standards have been lowered to the point of nearly non-existent. I have one two occasions used my old undergrad trick of taking a dirty shirt out of the hamper and applying Febreeze so I can wear it after not getting all the laundry done. My kid is seeing lots more fun fruits and mac-n-cheese, plus turkey hotdogs have emerged as a weekly dinner staple. As for Hubby, I am pretty sure he still lives here based on the disappearance of food and the piles of men's laundry but I can't be certain. This week I thought our dog ran away and was torn between feeling sad he was gone and guilty/happy that if he was gone I wouldn't have to vacuum as much. (note - he did not run away, he was sleeping in the guest bedroom) This weekend has been awesome! Our work load is lighter the next few weeks now that midterms are done, so I feel like I am coming up for air. I have taken all day today off of school stuff and have been hanging with the fam and getting the house back in order. Hopefully my next post will happen before Christmas! | | |
| I just returned from a solo shopping trip to the grocery store (a much enjoyed, new development in my life). I have found it's easier to zip through by myself now that Lil Guy wants to walk by the cart. Plus I cannot afford the amount of snacks I have to open in mid -trip to keep him entertained. On the way home I was scanning radio stations and "Delilah" popped up. Some guy was dedicating a song to his girlfriend in the Philippines whom he would be meeting in person for the first time next week and bringing her back to the US. He met her through a friend at work and they have had a long distance relationship until now. Why is it that the people who call in to dedicate songs always pick the CHEESIEST ones? This observation dates back to my days of listening to Casey Kasem's Weekly Top 40. Tonight's pick was "This I Promise You" by N'Sync. Blech. I like a good catchy tune by your Top 40 boy band - take "Pop" for example, also by N'Sync - but please pick something a little more original if you are going to express your love to me. It is ironic because the callers claim to have this amazing love for the person they call about, but then they pick a tune that was probably written in 5 minutes by a bunch of fat guys in a board room who were all sitting around saying things like "Stick with words that end in 'oo'...like too, do, new, you. It's easier to rhyme those." I've seen making the band before P Diddy took over. I know what goes down. All I am saying is that if anyone ever dedicated a song to me, I would want a song with lyrics that felt like I was being kicked in the heart. Something that cuts like a good U2 tune. Something that is a little more realistic about love - not some sappy send up. And don't even get me started about "Wind Beneath My Wings." | | |
| Briefly, some funny things I have seen at Wal-Mart yesterday and today*: 1. The pharmacist literally hiding behind one of the pillars out front while she took her smoke break. Guess she wants to keep the facade of good health, given her career. 2. While waiting to check out there was a dispaly of drum sets for sale. On the back of the box there is a photo of all the pieces in the box, including the stool. Instead of just showing the stool, they show a waist down backside shot of some man sitting on said stool. He is wearing old school Wranglers...and there is slight crackage showing...yeah... 3. A series of Emeril commercials that play on the televisions in the food aisle offering tips on how to get kids involved in the kitchen. That is all. *It was indeed a rare occasion that I visted Wal Mart twice in one day, as I usually frequent there about once a month. Convenience and cost won out in my quest to get things done this week. | | |
| Well, we are finally all back home after a weeklong venture to the mother state. Nothing like a visit to my girlhood home to make me realize that the old cliche about distance and the heart is so true. I love my extended family, but there is nothing like being back in my house with my closest family (hubby and lil guy). It was good to see that all was well in the home and with friends and family here in Ohio upon our return. Despite a raging cold, Hubby finished painting our upstairs bathroom and cleaned up the house before we arrived home. What a guy! Lil Guy and I have fallen back into our great routine of daily errands, intermixed with playing and naps. Man, I am going to miss these types of days when I start school. Today he did a few funny things. In the car on the way home from the grocery store he suddenly asked me to sing with him. He has never done that before. His song of choice? "Life Could be a Dream," an old Doo-Wop song featured in Cars the Movie. I really need to videotape him singing it because it is hilarious. Hubby is a little disturbed that our son likes to belt out 50s hits, but I love it! When we got home we enjoyed the great weather and broke out the giant bubble wand for the first time this year. I know this sounds cheesy, but it is so cool to watch kids chase bubbles. They are seriously so enthralled by them and there is always guaranteed laughter. I guess I am going soft in my old age. *sigh* I will close by letting you know that Lil Guy also peed my bed during his nap today, lest you think I live a fairy tale life of bubble and Doo Wop. | | |
| Well, I am not so sure that I fully endorse the "life is a highway" mantra, but that song is in my head because I have been singing it on demand the past few weeks. That song is featured in the movie "Cars" and Lil Guy randomly requests that I sing it. Most of the time I perform it while we are playing with his matchbox-type Cars, but I have also sang it in the car, in the grocery store and at bedtime. Some say I am the next Diana Ross - but those people are deaf and do not know who Diana Ross is. However, we are hitting the highway very soon for a trip to Illinois to see my family. During this trip I will also be meeting up with a great friend (what's up, Sunvan?) and traveling with her to the great state of Wisconsin to visit another great friend! This will be a no-kids trip, as my mom will watch Lil Guy while I venture out for a day of shopping. I should be home in time to tuck him in and probably give him a little present brought back from my journey. I must say, I am looking forward to it!! I can't believe that school is starting almost one month from today. I am approaching full nervous breakdown mode as I wrap up loose ends and prepare for Lil Guy to start preschool. *sigh* I am looking forward to it, but really trying to savor this last month at home alone with Lil Guy. Yesterday we washed my car (can you believe it was 80 yesterday?!) and it was a blast! We were both drenched and the car did not look that much cleaner than when we started, but it was so much fun. Of course, it poured last night and completely washed off all the soap spots that we left and now the car looks fantastic. Once again, God provides. Today I received 3 separate packets of Huggies coupons in the mail - one for my 9 month old, one for my 21 month old and one for my 30 month old. They were all addressed to me and they will all be used b/c they are not just for diapers but for baby wash, wipes, Little Swimmers, etc. I would like to know why they think I have 3 children in a remarkably small window of time. I don't think the 21 month and 30 month thing is even possible, since you are technically pregnant for 40 weeks. I guess maybe if you had the second child premature...okay I have already overthought this! If I neglect to post before this weekend, have a wonderful Easter! | | |
